Kitchener Waterloo is one of the most diverse cities in Canada and host some incredible graffiti
artists. Like many cities Kitchener
has its fair share of graffiti and to be fair there is a lot of amazing work
and others that should be named. A lot of time and dedication to this field has
evolved it to an essential spot of Berlin Record Productions. The graffiti in
the city of Kitchener Waterloo tends to be looked at as a desecration of city
property as well as a canvas to artists wanted to show there creative talents.
Through the past year I have actively pursued this art form and found some
truly amazing work with a fair amount of terrible tags as well.
Tagging has
exploded not only in my area but across the golden triangle. Graffiti is very
touchy subject where one side believes it is destroying property and vandalizing
city and government property, yet on the other they feel strongly in what they
do and take there work seriously. I feel that there should be a designated spot
where tags and graffiti can be done and show off some of there work in a
positive light. Tagging has become a huge problem like in many cities with foul
and racial slurs being written along with other aspects I wish not to discuss.
I feel strongly in both sides and I feel this is an issue that needs to be resolved.
Tag artists themselves have created the issue with there flagrant disregard for
everything and there persistent vandalism of other people things. Tags can be
found everywhere, washrooms, walls, street lamps, buses, people’s homes and property
and I feel this is the central issue that is needed to be looked at. I
understand the artists desire to create art in this type of form but also need
to realize the consequence of these hobbies. Kitchener has become a place where
everywhere you look youth has at some point either tagged or draw on almost
everything u see.
Also
I have noticed that it takes time and skills to create some of the pieces I
have seen so I found the best spots to find Kitchener graffiti tend to be
places with little or no view and in positions that are not normally traveled.
Alleys a top buildings, signs, homes and schools there is really tags and graffiti
everywhere you look. But yet I am debating the art form I love these amazing pieces
and yet a lot in Kitchener
am quite an eye sore. I love expression of creative avenues and really am fascinated
with the whole tagging and graffiti and really hope to see a lot more creative pieces.
SOME REALLY AMAZING GRAFITTI CAN BE FOUND IN
KITCHENER WATERLOO
Graffiti
used to be a small issue for a lot of people including myself but I found a lot
of work I found was complete garbage tags including 159, KAN'T BE STOPPED, and
others are the reason people are not helping the artists in fact it is making
there plea less sympathetic. For example if you tag every thing u see the same
object or design it really makes the case of the people who dislike this art
form, yet on the other hand tags with colorful and graffiti with creative taste
gives people a canvas they can relate with regardless if they understand it. Is
short I truly wish less time devoted to useless tagging and graffiti and more
time on colorful tags and creative graphics will make the situation. People's
right to freedom is the essential and important fact we have but abusing this privilege
is the reason why many dislike this form of creative expression.
I find
a lot of amazing tags and artwork in many areas in the KW area. I traveled
miles along train tracks finding the best graffiti I could find I hosted many
of the amazing pieces on this site to show what creative skills these
individuals create. I have posted two galleries thus far to show the creation
of a domain where people can look at the graffiti created and comment on there
feelings and views.
CREATIVE GRAFITTI FOUND IN KITCHENER WATERLOO AND
ELSE WHERE
In closing I feel that this is a cause and issue that needs to be resolved, the
Blatant disregard for people’s property and
belongings is probably the central issue
regarding tagging and graffiti. The artist I
found has a common respect for certain
Things but mixed views on other issues.
Example, most graffiti tag artists will
Not tag a church or personal home, but
everything else seems fair game.
They
tag almost everything to either get better or proof to be rebellious. I have
taken a lot of time trying to understand the artist point of view and hope to
see there side of the story. I found a lot of graffiti and tags in areas that
many would not see. They need time and control to create this art work but they
also don’t seem to care about the consequences. There is no responsibility for
there actions, yet police and city officials choose to clean it and completely
ignore the problem. I found a lot of work that I found not only offensive but
complete disregard for respect and decency. I don’t understand tags that have
no meaning and absolutely no creative aspects. Obscene graphics and writing
have made this in my opinion a very important issue. I tried to understand the
techniques, styles and different creative styles and found in almost all cases
that they would not destroy there other property but also have no problem destroying
other peoples. A common respect is needed to resolve this issue.
Tagging and writing on
peoples buildings, light fixtures, mailboxes and fences seem to be more obvious
and more frustrating then other spots that have been tagged. In part I have to
admit blame for the police and government having relaxed and loose feelings on
this topic and almost no consequences for these actions. This art form is truly
an important part of society but also doesn’t need to be so frond upon. These
artists really love creating these pieces and love to show them off, but feel
like a burden to do so. Names and identities are shadowed and change to
personal tags and graffiti. Names of people are usually not found on the
artwork out of fear of prosecution, which is another major issue that divides
people. It seems to be in my opinion the only art form I aware of that the
individual doesn't want to be known to the main stream, but this point seems
quite interesting. In conclusion it is an issue that needs to get better before
it gets worse and needs to be more strict discipline for these artists, but at
the same time these artists should have an avenue to create this art form in a
positive and respected manner
